Ribbed co-ord set: Wholesale sourcing brief

A buyer’s working guide to matching pieces that behave consistently together.

Commission a material recommendation for both intended silhouettes

Ask the developer to explain whether one offered rib route can deliver the intended upper and lower silhouettes, or whether a deliberately mixed construction is justified. The output is a reasoned material-development recommendation, supported by the actual outfit prototypes, not simply permission to pair two individually accepted items. Supply the upper outline and the specified lower garment before requesting that recommendation. Define the visual relationship at their meeting point so the developer cannot satisfy the request by quietly changing the top length or replacing the bottom with an easier shape.

Require the single-route option to reveal its compromise

For a proposed common body material, ask which piece governs the choice and what compromise remains in the other. A top selected for a compact neckline may not produce the intended lower hanging line without additional development; the reverse may also be true. These are questions to investigate, not predicted behaviour for either article. Request a clear account of the actual pattern and component choices that make the proposal viable. The recommendation should distinguish an accepted aesthetic compromise from a missing sample or unresolved construction question.

Make the mixed-route case earn its complexity

If the developer recommends different body routes, ask what observed limitation the change addresses and what new visual or dimensional relationship it introduces. CottonWorks includes garment fitting in final knit material assessment, supporting evidence from the complete developed outfit. A fine-rib upper over a 2×2 rib lower may be a deliberate texture proposal, but it cannot be presented as indistinguishable material. Require an explanation of why this contrast serves the design better than the actual single-route trial, while avoiding unsupported promises that one material is necessarily more supportive or stable.

CottonWorks: Designing Knit Textiles — Final knit material assessment includes actual garment fitting. The coordinated silhouette observations and buyer recommendation are original editorial proposals, not measured FR-401 or RB-302 garment performance.

Demand a reversible decision on the silhouette concession

Have the buyer name the concession that would be acceptable if the preferred material route does not produce both original outlines. For example, the buyer might consider a revised upper overlap but reject a change from a straight lower silhouette to a flared one. These are hypothetical design choices, not instructions for a particular pattern. Return the recommendation with the concession clearly illustrated and the unchanged features identified. This prevents a satisfactory looking prototype from obscuring the fact that it solves a different product brief than the one originally costed.

Expose the development consequence of the selected route

Ask the maker which actual edge, waist or joining constructions the recommended route requires and which operations differ between the alternatives. American & Efird supports communicating assembly through seam drawings and stitch details. Use that precision to identify the developed proposal behind a later estimate, without prescribing a stitch or machine setting here. If mixed body materials require separate cutting assumptions, show the affected components and actual usable widths. Request real commercial confirmation after the proposition is understood; an unexplained combined set price cannot resolve a material-development compromise.

Catalogue starting points

Keep both routes explicit in the recommendation. FR-401 offers fine rib in 95% cotton and 5% elastane, Silicone + compacted, with 230, 250, 270, 290 and 310 g/m² listed. RB-302 offers 2×2 rib in 95% cotton and 5% elastane, Enzyme + compacted, with 220, 240, 260, 280 and 300 g/m² listed. Their interleaved ranges have no identical weight option. Ask which actual offered weight, finish and usable width underpins each prototype. The catalogue does not establish availability, equivalent rib geometry, waist support or a proven coordinated care outcome.

Approve the reasoning before turning it into a product claim

The buyer's response should accept a named material route and its disclosed silhouette concession, request a specific additional prototype, or reject the proposed compromise. Retain the actual samples and the explanation of outstanding shade and care evidence. A common route does not establish identical dimensional change, and a mixed route does not establish an acceptable colour relationship without assessment. This decision makes the coordinated design defensible before sales imagery and production commitments are finalised. It also prevents later material substitutions from inheriting approval based solely on the words cotton elastane rib.

Technical background and scope

This is a structured editorial draft. Garment-specific development advice is paired with existing catalogue records; compatibility must be established by sampling. AL KUMAŞ supplies fabric. Cutting, sewing and finished-garment production are separate unless explicitly agreed.
