Combed or carded? What the yarn choice does to the cloth

Combed versus carded is not a quality badge, it is a process difference: combing removes the short fibres. The result shows up in surface, hand and pilling.

Combed or carded? What the yarn choice does to the cloth

What the extra step does

Combing takes out short fibres and trash, leaving longer, more parallel fibres. That produces a smoother, less hairy yarn. Carded yarn skips the step, which is why it costs less.

Surface and print compatibility

The even face of combed fabric holds finer print detail. Carded gives a more rustic, matte look that some collections choose deliberately.

What to expect on pilling

The hairier the yarn, the higher the pilling risk. Compact combed minimises it. Put the expected pilling grade, with its test method, in the technical file.
